CommentSamples PR95/1-16 were collected along a line across a basaltic dike to determine alteration assemblages of tuffs intruded by basaltic dikes and sills at Paiute Ridge. PR95/12 is melted and recrystallized light gray coarse-grained and crystal-rich massive ash flow tuff from the same unit as described for PR95/1. Collected along the southeastern contact zone between tuff and basalt. The fused ash flow tuff contains encased basalt fragments, is very hard and forms resistant jointed ledges, whereas the basalt between ledges on opposite sides of the dike is weathered and lower in relief.
