Abstract

Eight new potassium-argon ages are presented from rhyolitic andbasaltic rocks from the Fort Hall Indian Reservation, near Blackfoot,Idaho. These ages, combined with those previously published, documentthe following conclusions; 1 The oldest known rhyolitic activity inthe study area is about 9-10 Ma; 2 major Basin and Range upliftoccurred about 7 Ma; 3 the character of volcanic activity changeddramatically about 4 Ma from caldera-fed, rhyolitic ash-flow eruptionsto fissure flows of tholeiitic basalt; and 4 an unusual dome-shapedstructure, called the Buckskin Dome, is underlain entirely by basaltand has formed since about 2.3 Ma.
