Abstract

The Carlin gold deposit, the largest disseminated-replacement gold deposit in North America, has produced about 2 million troy oz of gold since 1965. Most of the ore bodies occur in dolomite and dolomitic limestone in the upper 250 m of the Roberts Mountains Formation. The deposit was formed during the late Tertiary time as a result of interrelated high-angle faulting, intrusive igneous activity, and hydrothermal processes similar to those in the roots of hot-springs systems.
