Abstract

The Buckingham stockwork molybdenum deposit is a Late Cretaceous calc-alkaline system located on the east flank of the Battle Mountain mining district and is estimated to contain more than 1,000 million tons of mineralized rock averaging approximately 0.10 percent molybdenum (as MoS (sub 2) ) and containing small amounts of silver, tungsten, copper, and gold. Seven identified intrusive phases in the system appear to have carried molybdenum. Deformation of the system during the Tertiary along three major, low-angle faults distended the system into three major tectonic blocks, one of which contains the supergene copper deposits at Copper Basin.
